Things to notice when comparing
- Revenue shows how much a company sells in a year; market cap shows what all its shares are worth today. They can differ a lot, because the share price also reflects profit and what investors expect, not sales alone.
- Margins show how much of each $1 of sales a company keeps, so they let you compare companies of very different sizes.
- Typical numbers differ from one industry to another, so similar businesses are the easiest to compare.
