Example from the Vocabulary: P/E Ratio
Every term on StockLab is explained the same way: what it is, why it matters and how to read it. Here is one example.
- What is it?
- The P/E ratio shows how much investors are paying for each $1 of company earnings.
- Why does it matter?
- It helps put a stock's price in context relative to the profit the company generates.
- How do I read it?
- Compare it with the company's past P/E and similar companies. A higher or lower P/E is not automatically better or worse.
