The company at the time

Alphabet is Google's parent company. Most of its money comes from ads on Google Search and YouTube, and it also runs Google Cloud. In November 2022 OpenAI released ChatGPT, and many people wondered whether AI chatbots could replace search engines. On February 7, Microsoft said it was adding ChatGPT-style AI to its Bing search engine; the next day, an ad for Google's own chatbot, Bard, showed a factual error, and Alphabet's shares fell about 8%. Its profit had fallen in 2022 as advertising slowed, and in January it announced it would cut about 12,000 jobs.

Information available at the time

The same numbers as on company pages, as they had been reported by February 10, 2023. Sector medians aren't shown because StockLab doesn't have them as they stood back then.

Revenue, growth, profit and cash flow are for fiscal year 2022 (ended December 2022), the latest full year in an annual report filed by then; cash and debt come from the latest report (its date is on the card). Results announced after that aren't in these cards yet, even if the story above mentions them, so their numbers can differ.
