Brazil and currencies

B3

Brazil's stock exchange, based in São Paulo, where Brazilian shares, funds and other investments are traded.

Why does it matter?

It is where most Brazilian companies' shares trade, in reais, and where people in Brazil can buy BDRs of foreign companies.

How do I read it?

Shares on B3 use tickers ending in a number, like VALE3 or ITUB4. Many large Brazilian companies also have ADRs in New York; StockLab shows those, in dollars.

Example

Vale's shares trade on B3 as VALE3, in reais, and its ADRs trade in New York as VALE, in dollars. Both stand for the same company.
