Company reports
Balance Sheet
The financial statement that shows what a company owns (assets) and what it owes (liabilities) on a single day, usually the last day of its fiscal year.
Why does it matter?
It shows how much cash and debt a company has, and how much belongs to its shareholders.
How do I read it?
The two sides always match: assets equal liabilities plus shareholders' equity. Cash, debt and shareholders' equity on StockLab come from it.
Example
A company with $500 million of assets and $300 million of liabilities has $200 million of shareholders' equity: $500 million = $300 million + $200 million.
